MOUNTAIN BIKIING IN HIMACHAL AND LEH – LADAKH

MOUNTAIN-BIKIINGMountain biking has always been a pleasure for a person who loves adventure sports. And, when it is done amidst the nature then, it becomes more delightful. The exquisite and varied topography of western Himalaya of India offers a wide scope for Biking. Western Himalayan Mountain ranges offers some hard to beat tracks for the adventure lovers. Most of these mountain bike tours here involve some single track riding and demands technical and physical ability. The biggest attraction is riding over the highest mountain pass of world, lush green valleys, high altitude plateau, majestic rivers, lakes and cold desert landscapes.

Spiti could be called “Middle Country” as it lies between Buddhist country of Tibet, Ladakh, Lahoul and Hindu country of Kullu-Manali. The beautiful Valleys and high plateaus of Spiti offer very interesting biking with stupendous views of high snow covered mountains, glittering glaciers and lunar shaped landscape. There are many 1000 years old important Gompas in the valley like Ki, Thagyud, Kungri, Dhankar and Tabo.

HIGHEST ALTITUDE: Kunzum Pass 4551m and Rohtang Pass 3970m.



ITINERARY

DAY 01 – Shimla
Meeting with the team in Hotel at Shimla. Briefing about the biking tour and short ride around Shimla to get familiar with mountain bikes and riding in hill area. Overnight in hotel.

Day 02: Shimla to Narkanda 64km (2708m)
Start biking along the Old Indo Tibetan Trade route till Narkanda, over night in hotel.

Day 03: Narkanda to Rampur 74km (1005m)
Descend down to the Satluj valley and spend overnight in a hotel at Rampur town.

Day 04: Rampur to Sarahan 40km (2165m)
Bike along the Satluj for 23km and take a 17 Kms diversion to the village of Sarahan. Sarahan is tinny but beautiful village surrounded by apple trees and dominated by Shrikhand Mahadev peak which resembles with Sivalinga. o/n in hotel.

Day 05: Sarahan to Sangla 95km (2608m)
Drop down to the Satluj valley and travel to Sangla, one of the most scenic valleys in Kinnour. Overnight in hotel/camp.

Day 06: Sangla to Chitkul (3480m) and back to SANGLA 52km
Bike along the Baspa river to reach last village of valley called Chitkul. o/n in hotel at sangla.

Day 07 : Sangla to Kalpa 51km (2900m)
Following the same highway along the river Satluj. Kalpa is a small village with magnifiecent view of Kinner Kailash mountain. o/n in hotel

Day 08: Rest Day At Kalpa
Kalpa is picturesque village, once was favoured haunt of Lord Dalhousie the then governor general of India. Day will be spend arranging inner.line permit required for foreign visitors. o/n in hotel.

Day 09: Kalpa to Puh 77km 2837m
As we ride again along the Satluj river, landscape changes slowly from green to rugged and valley gets narrower. Over night stay in one of the largest village called Puh in upper Kinnour valley.

Day 10: Puh to Nako 42km 3662m
We pass by the confluence of river Satluj and Spiti at a narrow gorge of Khab.after that we climb gradually towards Hangrang valley the upper most region of Kinnour. Nako is one of the highest and typical village situated near the small lake o/n in hotel

Day 11: Nako to Tabo 59km 3050m
Today we ride along the Spiti river and pass by village Chango famous for its quality of apple. Sumdo is the last village of kinnour and entry point of Spiti valley. Tabo is an ancient village flanked on either side by lofty hills, brown and sun burnt. It’s the seat of 10th century old Budhist monastery founded by Rinchen Zangpo.

Day 12: Tabo to Dankar to Kaza (3600m)
Dankar monastery was once the castle of rullers of spiti valley, built on a hill is a unique architectural style of spiti valley.After visit head towards to Kaza, the district headquarter of Spiti. o/n in hotel.

Day 13: Kaza – Ki – Monastery – Kibber – Kaza 36 km (4205m)
Bike to the highest inhabited village of Asia at Kibber and stop over at the famous Ki monastery on the way down. o/n in hotel.

Day 14: Kaza- Losar 57km (4079m)
Bike to Losar village at the Base of the Kunzum Pass. o/n in camp.

Day 15: Losar – Chattru 63km (3560m)
Today we cross over the Kunzum Pass (4551m) ‘gate way to spiti valley’ and bike on rough road along the Chandra river with rugged and barren mountain all sides till the camp site at Chattru. o/n in camp.

Day 16: Chattru – Manali
Cross the Rohtang pass (3970m) and drop into the lush green Kullu valley. Overnight in Hotel in Manali.
